Origins

Cricket origiated in the South-East of England, in places such as Kent and Sussex. It has a known history to have started in the early 16th Century, but people believe that a more primitive version of the game has benn played since the 13th century. It began to be a childrens' game in advance of adults taking up the sport.

Cricket was originally spelled "creckett" and the reason to being the title of the sport is because the word "creckett" means stick or staff. By the turn of the 17th century, cricket had become a game played by parish teams. As time moved on, the sport was introduced to other countries in the British Empire. It is because of this that nowadays countries that were not colonies of the British Empire do not play the game. Countries such as France, Italy, Germany do not play Cricket.

During the 20th century Huge advances in cricket took place, such as the introducion of the ODI and T20 format of the game, two shortened versions of cricket which involved less skill and were more Entertaining. This was an outrage to the old cricket fans as they thought this so called "improvement" was a ruining the formal reputation of the game.

Legendary figures in Cricket history were born. Don Bradman, world record holding batsman, and Kapil Dev, world reknowned, all rounder. Among them there were, Graham Pollock, Brian Lara, Viv Richards and Jacques Kallis.

Modern Cricket

Nowadays, Cricket has evolved into more than just a game, it is a way of life for many people. The enjoyment for the sport has spread throughout the world and it is a form of entertainment for many.
The bats have changed, players are stronger and the variety of what happens has increased significantly. The changes between then and now anre so different that it seems like a completely different game.
